The down and dirty of the allegory of the cave

So basically Plato was saying that our world is like the cave what we experience is only shadows, and that there is a place, or realm where objects actually exist. Plato calls this the realm of the forms. I pulled this from my Philosophy notes so the explanation is geared more toward that than education. However, I wanted to see if anyone can think of it another way.
