And the last of the three...

How can the media center best support the learning success of students in your school?

Some examples of thing the media center can do to support the learning success of students include:
-providing an inviting environment for learning
-providing up-to-date technology
-providing a supoortive staff
-working with classroom teachers
-presenting information about internet safety

Make the media center an inviting place where there are quiet areas for study, but also an active area where students can have fun and learn at the same time. No one likes to be shushed at all the time and it is difficult to be quiet when your friend is sitting next to you and you have a question. There are so many resources in the library or media center, and for a beginner it is hard to know where to start. Always having someone helpful, informative, and polite at the students’ disposal is good. The more media specialists, the better. It is hard to wait for a long time to get help, when you only have a simple question to ask.
Media specialists need to have an active role in the class room and help individual teachers whenever possible. Teachers are busy and over whelmed, and having a little extra help is really appreciated.

Having plenty of books, not only reference or non-fiction, but also fiction books, because even though fantasy books are not all that educational, reading helps challenge the mind and it keeps the brain working. Having someone around that knows about the media center is always a good thing, because there are definitely students and teachers that do not have a clue as to what to do when it comes to some things in the media center. It is always good to have that little bit of extra help. Resources are an amazing tool for both students and teachers. A place where students know they can go if they need a quiet place to study or do their homework would help them succeed, because then they can actually concentrate on what they are doing. The media center is a great place to have in a school and students who utilize it will hopefully be rewarded in the long run. :D

Making sure that the library is open to all and those students feel welcomed while working; meaning that students are not scared to ask for help.
Working with teachers to help students learn how to research properly, and cite work in research.
Teaching students how to use new technology, along with how to take it into the classroom.

The media center's success all has to do with what is provided for the students and teachers, as well as the helpfulness of the media specialist. The environment of a media center should have quiet areas for study, as well as active areas where students can work, discuss, work on projects, etc. Also, the areas with books should be organized and it should be easy to find things. Also, the environment should be one that provides technology and resources that everyone can use, especially for those students that may not have any resources at home. The environment should be at an equilibrium, so that all the students can work and learn.

I feel the effectiveness of the media specialist greatly affects the students ability to learn. Having an inviting media center has a lot to do with bringing the students in and making them feel comfortable with being there, however, the media specialist can either make or break a students opinion on the media center and affect his or her future experiences. I know the staff here at ASU is friendly and very helpful which makes me feel comfortable with going to the library and asking questions to help me be able learn more about whatever it is that I am having to research.

I feel that by informing students from the beginning about the media center and all that it has to offer can create an inviting area where students will want to be.
By having both quiet areas for study, group areas where individuals can collaborate without worry, and technology areas create a diverse media center which also adds to the inviting sense of a media center.
It is also through the media specialist and their accessibility and through their friendly nature that students will feel more comfortable in utilizing a media center. Once this is established, many doors are opened for learning and the media center becomes an area where students want to spend their time.

I think that it is important for the media center to be first and foremost introduced to students and faculty as soon as they enter the school setting. I also think that it would be helpful to have teachers who assign papers and projects to have their students come to the media center for a couple days to do research. I think that as long as the media center is able to provide all different kinds of media sources, then they are already a big help just by existing. I know one thing that i particularly enjoyed while I was in high school in regards to the media center was that the media center staff were always helpful, and they also went above and beyond the call of duty by bringing guest authors in. I was given the opportunity to meet one of my favorite authors through the media center, because they put on this reading and meet and greet session. I think that this was extremely positive for me in school, and would be a great service to students.

I agree with Kimberly, there are certain things that you can only find in a media center. The media center will always be an environment that you can work in as well as use whatever current technology that are available at the time. If you're unsure what your exactly looking for in the media center staff will be able to answer any questions you have. The media center is one of the best resources you can use to become a successful student no matter what level your education.

The media center I believe serves to main purposes. First of all it provides a place to find countless amounts of useful information. No other place on the school campus will you have so many resources in one location. Secondly, the media center gives students a quiet place to go in order to study, get work done, or just take a break. I believe it is important for the media specialist to make the media center an inviting place for students to come by making it user friendly and a comfortable place to study.

I think that the media center can best support the learning success of students in my school by:
- being an inviting place where students want to come to learn
- having a variety of genres which will serve each student's interest
- having lots of teaching tools
- having some form of activity for students to do while they are waiting on their classmates to finish checking out books (very important for the elementary level)

The media center can best support the learning success of students in my school by:
-help them learn more about different genres of books.
-help them research effectively (for projects, their own interests).
-fostering their creativity by providing materials and resources for their use.
-inviting guest speakers concerning a variety of topics which interest students (possibly learn how these relate to literature, etc.)
-create an open learning environment where everyone is not absolutely quiet (a community of learners is created).
