I was wondering if any of you have considered what you could use the media center for, for your subject. Even though I am a music education major, I thought the media center would be an excellent tool for research on the less well known composers ( such as serialists).

Yes. Since our class, I have actually thought of a myriad of ways in which I could use the media center as a resource for my students. These include:
1) Research for papers
2) Writing workshops
3) Technological integration/projects for things we are reading
4) Grammar and Writing Exercises
5) Selecting books that interest them and doing a report/presentation on it
I think that the media center will be a great resource for me! They are probably even more uses that I will discover once I get with a media specialist.

I have also thought about ways in which the media center would be advantageous to me and my classroom. I like the idea of technological integration that Anna said. I also like the idea of having my students find auto/biographies about mathematicians and then presenting them to the class. Even research on certain mathematical topics, such as the knot theory, would be a good way of using the resources that the media center offers. Study materials for math are also welcome pieces of help.

I have also been thinking about how to use the media center with my classes. However with Social Studies it seems to be an endless list from research for papers to projects. It is also another way to get students to read in the content area. As well as working with other teachers. I would have no problem with students researching mathematicians or composers as long as they are learning research skills and developing writing skills. Students could research in a social studies class; work on the paper with an English teacher, then present the paper in the class that fits the content.
