The last of the three questions... How can the media center best support the learning success of students in your school? |

A media center can be a great resource for classroom teacher to use to make their lessons and activities more exciting and accessible to all students. A student who learns visually or kinesthetically will especially benefit from access to the media center. The media center will give students an opportunity to view something visually that they do no see everyday in their classrooms, and if the students use the media center to create something (like a class video), then that could benefit the kinesthetic learners as well. |

The media center is extremely useful with helping the students learn in a different interactive and hands on way. It is very successful with all types of learners those who are independent and quiet as well as those who are very multitasking and loud. It provides them with many aspects of learning and engaging techniques to better teach them how to successfully manage throughout our society. --------------------------------- Britini Murray |

The media center can provide out of the box strategies rather than strickly learning in the classroom. Through the media center students are able to engage in opportunities that aren't provided in each classroom in their school. Students enjoy the new experience of creative thinking. |

I think the media center can support learning by providing the resources teachers need to make the learning environment better. The resources that should be found in the media center can help make it easier for some students to learn and also make it more fun. As I mentioned in another post, it can also help support learning by allowing the student to choose books and things of interest for themselves. |

Students can go to the media center and learn about any given subject through the use of books, videos, internet, etc. in a new way that may not be presented to them in the classroom. Resources in the media center may be more appealing to their learning style and could add to the information already presented to them in the classroom. Teachers can also tap into these resources that are more appealing to their students than a routine lesson to reach more learning styles in their classroom. |

There are hundreds of ways! I remember when all of our schools "librarians" became known as the Media Specialists and now that I have been through high school and college I can see why! They know so much about how to use the school's technology and they can do special programs with students about how to use it! Classroom teachers may have a limited knowledge of this based on the experts and they are there to help! Fortunately, Media Specialists are no longer expected to sit in the library all day and wait for students to check out books. As I sad, they can do special programs about the technology and be a great resource for teachers who may have questions about how to use certain features and technological services offered. I still remember all of the informational and FUN stuff we did on the computers in the library when in school. I know things have come a long way since "Storybook Writer" but those are some of my best memories. I think Media Specialists should get the credit that they deserve because they have TONS to offer schools. |

It supports students by giving them the chance to enter into a room that is wall to wall information. Where people get paid just to help them find what they need, and learn how to use the technology that is there. I feel that this really helps students a lot, and also allows teachers a chance to mix things up a bit by taking the students to the media center and exposing them to methods of research, and a varitey of different topics. It helps the student be a more literate person, and gives them the chance to learn things that a teacher cannot always teach them. |

The media center and media specialist is a valuable resource for everyone. They should be able to answer most any technology question. They should be able to help find information for research projects. Media Specialists are the folks that help make our lives easier by assisting with different projects and technology. |

The media center is a wonderful resource for the teacher and the student as long as it acutally used intertwined in weekly activities. I think that teachers do not always effectively use their media center or their specialist and therefore, the students miss out. I think that students can really benefit from knowing more about their media center and how to use it, because it can really benefit them later on it school. For example, when the students move on into high school they will be required to do a lot more independent research and if they already know the skill to finding valuable information online, then it will make their work much more simple. The media center is also great for small children, to encourage free reading. To let a small child go in a school library and choose a book is something they really enjoy and especially if you are teaching genres, and you tell them to choose a book from a specific genre you can bring learning into the media center. I think the media center is a great tool for learning, no matter the age. |

The media center can best support the successful learning of students by being able to provide an abundant amount of support. Whether it's through helping a student find a book on a topic their researching or a media specialist helping a student or teacher learn how to use a new form of technology, the media center should be an open and helpful learning environment. |

The media center can best support the successful learning of students by being readily available as a great resource to not only students but teachers. It is vital that teachers feel comfortable with the people working in a media center because if that relationship is not strong then the teacher will not feel comfortable asking for their suggestions and help which could really help boost the learning of students. |

I agree with Emily, the media center can best support students by being readily available to both students and teachers. Providing teachers with new resources and information that they can take back to their classroom is a great way to ensure that students benifit as much as possible from the media center. |

I believe that the media center can best support students by introducing them to the many forms of research and the many forms of resources. Exposing them to these and allowing them to use them and be comfortable with them will help them with assignments all through school. So many things involve technology, especially when students get older and are in the professional world. If students are comfortable with technology and learning how to work with new technology then that will be one less thing keeping them from succeeding. |

The media center can be most useful to students if they feel welcomed in that environment. Students should feel comfortable asking the media specialist questions or for help with resources. They need to feel like their learning is the most important thing for the media specialist. |

I agree with what has been said on here about media centers. They should be inviting and welcoming places readily available with a variety of resources for both students and teacher to use at any point when it is needed. |

A lot of the time librarians in school, and media specialist for that matter are portrayed as people who are unsensative or distant from the children. I think in order for a media center to best support the learning of the students, the media specialist has to be someone who the students believe they can come to about anything, not only research issues. But when they do have issues with a project or something, the student should be able to visit the media center and feel alright about it. |

Students best experience the library with a project. Getting students involved in a project that requires research is an amazing way to get students to learn more about searching the web for information, or even cruising the stacks for material for projects. Anytime spent in the media center should be learning time, but sometimes students go into the library and goof off. Giving the students a learning task in which they can be the self teacher or motivates themself to research promotes students independence. |

The media center can best support the learning success of the students by being open whenever possible to allow students to access books and other informational resources. Another way the media center can support student learning is the collaboration between the media specialist and the classroom teacher. Students are more successful when this happens because the classroom learning is extended into the media center. |

The media center will best support students' learning if it is really incorporated into the education such as including the media center in a regular schedule as well as allowing free time for students to visit, and by portraying media specialists as knowledgeable, helpful teachers that are part of the students education, that work with the teachers to plan lessons. Also, ensuring that up to date technology and resources are available for students to use will help them achieve and get the most from the media center. |
