Here is the first of three questions that I'd like for you to think about before next Thursday's class.

What do you feel is the role of the media specialist?

I think of a media specialist as teacher who works in the schools handling all of the multimedia equipment, such as video cameras, film projectors, recording equipments, slides, and videos. They work with classroom teachers to find ways to use media to better engage students in what they are learning; they a great resource for classroom teachers to be aware of.

I think media specialists are those there to help provide the teachers and students the best opportunities with aspects concerning technology and accessing information. They should be able to knowledgeable in many areas and able to be helpful with the area's that many teachers may not be that aware of. They help the teachers provide a variety of resources that enrich the learning environments of the students.

A media specialist should be knowledge in all technology used in their school. They should be a resouce that teachers can use when programs are updated and information changes. The specialist should be able to show and explain all aspects of media to teachers that might need help in using the media in their classrooms.

I agree with most people that a media specialist should be able to help the teacher with technology and know how to work the technology of the school, such as videos and tvs and things like that. I know that in elementary school the media specialist helped to run the tv program that gave the announcements and things in the morning. I also think of a media specialist being the one to teach students about the things in the media center.

A media specialist should be someone who is knowledgeable about the different technologies used in the school such as morning announcements using an intercom, announcements and news displayed on televisions in the school throughout the day, videos/DVDs teachers need played during lessons, as well as books within the library. They should be able to help teachers, staff, and students be able to access the materials they need and show them how it works if necessary.

The media specialist is the person who is there for the teachers to answer tricky questions about media and technology and give them pointers on how to utilize it in their classrooms. They are so often overlooked and their importance is belittled!
If I have a question about the new software I am trying to use or the new computers that are giving me fits, the first person I will go to will be the media specialist because I know I can trust him/her.

The media specialist is there to assist the teacher and students with the different media needs. Whether that be books, or computers, or technology needed for the classroom.

A media specialist is a person that handles the technology and library part of the school. They have extensive knowledge of all the latest technology. They are someone that teachers and students can approach and receive help on those issues.

When I think think of a media specialist I think of Mrs. Pat Farthing. She is always around to help you locate something and is a great resource. She knows a great deal about books that could help you with a particular project or lesson plan. I think a media specialist should just be a general resource for both the students and the teachers. A person who you can ask questions about a variety of different types of media, whether it be books, maps, computers, or videos. A media specialist can provide the teachers and students with information in many different forms, from multiple sources.

I think the media specialist is a great resource for teachers and students. They can help teachers add to their lesson plans or teach the teachers new ways to access and present information. They can also help students access and present information through the use of any kind of media - books and technology.

A media specialist is someone who works in a school and has extensive knowledge of both the resources available in the library, as well as technology that is useful in educating students.

In my mind, a media specialist is someone in the school that is very knowledgeable when working within the school library and also when dealing with technology. I feel that they should introduce many forms of technology to the students as well as to the teachers and try to help the teachers incorporate them into their classroom. I also think that it is their job to help the students learn how to look up, find, and check out a book. I also remember my media specialist being in charge of the broadcast of the morning announcements. I also believe that a media specialist should be up to date on the new computer programs and forms of technology so that if teachers come to them with questions they can easily answer them.

A media specialist is someone who helps teachers with all the media resources that are avaiable to them. I believe teachers would be very well benefited if they take advantage of thier and incorperate media into thier lesson plans. The media specialist is thier for extra help. Just like the name, "media specialist", they are a Specialist in thier field and should be able to train you, and answer any questions.

A media specialist is there to help teachers and students access and use various forms of media - print, technology resources, etc. Teachers should be able to ask the media specialist to gather materials for a specific unit from the media center. The media specialist should also be up-to-date on the newest technology resources, and should maybe even have workshops to teach these new resources to the teachers.

When I think of a media specialist, the first thing that comes to my mind is someone that is there for the teacher and students when the class is doing a project that requires research done on the internet, such as on NCWISE. Another way that I think of a media specialist in the school is someone who is there when the classroom experiences problems with technology that the teacher my not know how to fix. I am sure there are many other ways a media specialist helps a teacher become a better teacher, I have just never thought about the possibilties very much.

When I think of media specialist I think of the people who worked in my library in elementary school. In elementary was the only time that I called the library a media center and the staff media specialist. These people knew exactly where everything in the media center was. How to look things up on the internet, or computers to find a book. These people also helped my classes with materials for projects. I also think of media specialist as a promoted librarian.

I think the media specialist's role is to aid and collaborate with the classroom teacher. One job the media specialist might have is to find additional reading material (whether it be internet sources or tangible text) that goes with the classroom teacher's lesson plan and introduce these materials to students during the media center time. I don't think the media specialist is limited to this job though.

My view of a media specialist is someone who assists teachers and students with anything related to technology. This is useful when students need computers for research, or to make powerpoints or videos for projects. Also, teachers may need technology to present topics and lessons or even more simple tasks such as teaching how to use the library and filter through the stacks and use books effectively. Media specialists have more specific knowledge related to their area than the teachers and it gives the teachers a break for a while and the students a break from the classroom.
