Let's try this for fun...
Based on the terminology we discussed in our last class, try to label the members of the Price family as Realist, Pragmatist, Relativist, or God's eye view.

Here are my guesses...
Orleanna - hard one...still thinking on this one
Nathan - God's eye view (No room for any other beliefs...he was a know-it-all)
Rachel - Pragmatist (faced situations matter-of-factly and was always concerned with the success/failure of the outcome; rationality wasn't always her priority)
Leah - Relativist (accepted and did not object to the Congolese's beliefs)
Adah - A blend of Pragmatist and Relativist (a multitude of thinking processes where one wasn't better than the other and that was okay in her mind)
Ruth May - Realist (had to see it to believe it...very straight forward...my favorite character and Kingsolver just had to kill her off)

Michael, are you sure you weren't looking at one of the exam questions when you wrote this?

Remember that Rorty is arguing for a different understanding of pragmatism that is a little different than our everyday use of the word. For him, pragmatism always involves solidarity. This helps to distinguish pragmatism from relativism.

Not one of the categories, but I think Orleanna was depressed.

Classifying the characters as either a "realist", "relativist" or "god's eye view" is relatively easy for me. I have a harder time with the pragmatist view. Does anyone have clarification?
