Post subject:  Career Goals

So i know this might be a lame subject to post but i seriously am interested in seeing what all of you would like to do with you future working career as a teacher or in some other field. We are all teaching majors but the statistics show that maybe half of us will stay in that field so i am just curious what do you want to do? Do you honestly want to be a teacher? What are your goals, hopes, and dreams?

My goal is to become a kindergarten teacher and really impact the lives of my students. I have always wanted to be a teacher and as i have been here at ASU it has only made me want to become an elementary teacher more. I absolutely love getting out into the schools and working with the students and finding out new ways to teach all different types of children. I truly believe that this is what i will be doing for a very long time. To me teaching is not a job, it is a calling and i believe that i was called to be a teacher. Only 1 more year :)

Honestly, I have a idea of what I want to do with my career but I'm not to focused on a set goal of achievement. I do know I want to teach. If I get into the high school and absolutely love it, I will stay there until I feel I am no longer useful. I could see myself progressing enough through higher levels to get a doctorate and move to university level teaching. This is all speculation. I know that I want to teach. I know that I want to have an impact on my students' lives. I want to be a role model for students who may not have a role model in their life. I just want to help my students in any way possible. Where that takes me, I do not know, but I know it will be a fun ride.

I'd like to teach for a while in middle school and maybe work my way up to teaching high school. I want to get a feel for what it's like to teach a varitey of students from different age groups. When I get a little older, I'd like to teach at a college or university. My strengths (so I'm told) are in writing, so if I do get burned out with education, maybe I could do something with writing. However, I find teaching to be exciting and rewarding, so I really hope I don't lose my interest with teaching.

I feel like I can plan my whole life out, but nothing ever works out the way I hope, but if it did...
I hope to move away from home and go teach somewhere in an area I've never been. I'm looking at the Seattle area, but with the current economy I will pretty much take a job wherever I can. I have always wanted to be a teacher and my reasons have varied and changed throughout the years, but I agree that teaching is a calling. I felt I have been called to teach, whether I see myself still teaching thirty plus years from now, I'm not sure. Life offers you so many different paths and I want to be open to any exciting opportunities that come my way. But this year, I've gotten so much validation and I know I have the passion and drive to stick out the hard times and find joy in the small victories that come in teaching. I love to travel, so who knows where I'll end up, but I will probably be teaching wherever I am.

Me, I have been wanting to do something with music since I was in sixth grade. As the years went on I realized that teaching is where I wanted to be. Here I am and extremely excited to become a high school band director. I am very confident that I will stay in my field and teach for the rest of my life, and that is very exciting to me.

I do truly plan on being a teacher. I think it is one of the most rewarding professions, at least for me. I want to eventually get my masters in reading and become a specialist. I think that I would end up working for a county or something along those lines. I think that being a proficient reader is a defining thing that everyone should be able to achieve.

I struggled with reading when I was very young, I did not have good instruction at the first school that I attended. I had to play catch up with the rest of my class and I just remember how it effected me. I want to help children who are struggling, much like I did, to be able to enjoy reading.

I get asked this question an awful lot and my response has always been the same which is that I want to teach music. I began to receive paychecks for teaching my junior year of high school and have continued teaching whenever, whatever, and however I can. I also teach ski lessons during the winter, so I may have to continue doing that until this hiring freeze is ended in the public school systems. But to be honest, I do not know how much more schooling I will acquire or what exactly I will teach and when I will be doing that. All I know is that I was put on Earth to teach people and that is exactly what I intend to do.

My goal is to survive student teaching. Then I'm going to play guitar on cruise ships, I have already passed the audition for this and can't wait to start! Then I want to go to grad school and eventually teach at the college level.

Yeah it's hard to say if I want to stay in teaching or not, I'm with Peter and just want to make it through student teaching. I would like to someday work on my masters in conducting after teaching for a few years, if teaching ends up being something I want to do. I hope it all works out and teaching is everything I expected it to be but you never know. My Ultimate goal is to enjoy what I do. If thats teaching then great but I'm not sure at this point.

I can say with confidence that I want to teach music. I'm not sure if it will be in public schools or what, but the feeling of reaching through to someone and passing the knowledge that we learn onto others is a great feeling. I am a triple music major and I would love to work in all three fields before finally settling in one. I would love to go on to grad school and eventually get a doctorate in music theory/composition to be able to teach either or both of those to college students. I definitely want to teach middle and high bands for a while before continuing my education.

I love high school students and I love teaching. I think high schoolers are awesome. I love the way they all are just trying to figure themselves out and be somebody. I cnat wait to come alongside as a supporter. I dont know how long I will teach in a high school, but I think I will always be teaching. I love trying to think of ways to rephrase and reexplain and communicate in a language people will understand. A masters is possible for my future, but I'm fine with not being fully in control of these things. Maybe I'll teach in charolette.

After I Student Teach in the fall, I hope that I will have a clearer understanding of where I would like to teach. My goal has been to teach in either an American Overseas School or an International High School, while living in some country in Europe. I am hoping that I will be able to get a good comparison of the two different school systems when I Student Teach here in the states, as well as in Ireland. I've always wanted to integrate myself with different students in a different environment, in order to obtain the experience of a lifetime.

Besides being an English teacher, I would like to be a published author. My passion has been writing since I was 8 years-old, and I would love nothing more than to see my book on a bookshelf in Barnes & Noble.
