In European History, which is what I'll be hoping to teach, the point of the entire class is to learn the history and progression of world religions and cultures from Europe and Asia. So, I've already mentioned this on another post, but I just finished creating a website for my CI3100 class. I ended up having to call my teacher to make sure that it was ok to put the COEXIST logo on the homepage (
http://sites.google.com/site/inthekitch ... ilgus/Home). My point of doing it was to present all religions equally, and at the same time, to assure families that I don't plan on pushing any one religion to the students. But my friend told me that it could be problematic for me to leave it up there in case there is a particularly christian family who might not appreciate that I am putting them in the same class as Islam. The moral of the story is that my teacher said that it was ok, but there have been cases when techer have been fined or even fired for leaving that kind of thing on a school sponsored website. So I think that if you care about keeping your job, at least until you get tenure, maybe you should just leave it out.
I left it on there though for the principle of the matter. I like to live on the edge.
