For the first of my three events I attended the showing of Schindler's List by the Judaic, Holocaust, and peace studies. I had only seen the first few minutes of the film and wanted to see the rest so I jumped when the opportunity presented itself. It was a long movie but it was very uplifting and showed what a person can do in the face of adversity and trying times. Even though the movie is fictional it shows how much impact a human can have on others’ lives and hope to have the same effect on the lives of my students. I hope to make them want to learn.
The second event I attended was the Have Yosef a Holiday event. I didn't really know what it was walking in but was surprised just how little I (and I assume a lot of people) know about major holidays around the world. There were holidays like Christmas and Dia de los muertos but there were also explanations of holidays I did not no much about like Diwali, Kwanza, and Egyptian Coptic Christmas. My favorite by far though was the Motown Christmas display that had pictures and short bios of the artists along with Motown Christmas music playing, it was awesome!
The third event I attended was the gospel choir concert on Sunday. I have attended a few concerts before this one and they always put on a good show. They are very lively and seem to be having a lot of fun on stage, my only concern is that they seem to sing a lot of the same songs every year. Don't get me wrong, they're fantastic at what they do and they are far better singers than I am but i wouldn't mind if they changed it up a bit. That being said they bring a different feel than any other concert i've been to on campus, they invite the crowd to get into it which i think is awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed the outside of class events assignment and learned a lot about things i previously would not have been very inclined to care about.
