I have noticed throughout my high school career and college career that teacher's have favorites. Now teachers don't plan to have favorites, but it does occur. I don't think that this is a good idea by no means, but what do you think? Now, I don't know how to overcome this, but I think that it will continue until someone puts a stop to this. Usually, these favorites that teachers have are the students who have the good grades, relate to the teacher's likes, etc. Just curious how we can fix this or can we?

Thats a tough question and the only answer that I could think to give would be that as students of today and teachers of tomorrow that we know it and will set an example for the ones that come after us and maybe the ones before us. But I agree that this is not a good thing. Encouragment is one thing but favoritism is another.

This is definately an issue that all of us will face in the classroom. I can see myself during my internship unconsciouly picking favorites. There are some students that I am more prone to say good morning to or more quick to praise in their successes. This is obvioulsy unacceptable, and it is eaiser to find fault in others doing it before we find it in ourselves. Being aware is the first step in avoiding picking the "teacher's pet". I have discovered in myself that if I look for at least one thing in each person in the class that has been a positive addition or that I admire, I tend to be more encouraging and caring towards all of the students.
