“Negative” freedom is to be free in society but still have to answer to someone else. For example, high school students live in America and are free but they still live with their parents and have them to answer to. The parents tell them what to do. College is another example of negative freedom because you are free in a sense but students don’t necessarily have the option to take any class they choose because they must follow the core curriculum.
“Positive” freedom is 100% free to make all of ones choices by herself. People with positive freedom have the option to ask themselves ‘How do I want to live my life?’ and then they can do it if they choose.
