Could someone help me out with exactly what "institutionalized racism" is I think I know what I am trying to say, but I'm not sure it's going to sound right

I believe this comes from the Peggy McIntosh article on "white privilege." I think that institutionalized racism is the kind that we don't necessarily feel, we just take it for granted. Like the band-aids--we don't think about "flesh" color being ours, but this idea is racist all the same.
