This morning we were reading a small passage about a gorilla. In the back of my mind it whispered Ishmael. Evertyime I hear, see or speak the word gorilla, Ishmael is attached to it. I believe that Ishmael will always be lurking in the shadows of my mind.

Janie,
I feel the same way. I kept thinking today that I had more to read about it tonight. I have a tattle monkey in my room that I found myself looking at today and thinking of Ishmael. How strange. I think this will last in my mind also as much as I think I disliked it, I think I actually liked it.

Even funnier- our little Cairn Terrier's favoite toy is a gorilla. She was playing with it and slinging it around with her mouth when I came home from class Tuesday.

Last week I started my poetry unit. When we got to the limericks, my students always love for me to model. So I asked the students what to write about. They wanted me to write a limerick about a gorilla. And I didn't! I chose to wirte about a broom. I couldn't stand to thoughts about Ishmael. Although, I probably could have written a good one.
