I've been reading through the forum and many have talked about retention (those that have been retained and those that should have been retained). I'm struggling with that right now. I've never retained a student before.

I have a student who doesn't complete his work. The little work he does you can tell that he's not trying. I've tried everything I know to get him to work and I get no help from the parent. I'm not sure if he's ready to go on or not. I hate to wait until EOG time and decide then. My gut says he can do it if he just tries. Has anyone had similar situations? What did you do about it?
