I am just over 100 pages into the book but it seems as though Africa is to the Price family as Ishmal was to the man.

Good point, Kristi! Nice to see that you're spending your weekend with Poisonwood, too. At least it's easier reading some of our previous assignments.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book thus far. Nathan has a great deal to
learn about treating others the way he would like to be treated. He is very
narrow minded in more than one respect. I hope his personality takes
a turn for the best in the second half of the the novel.

Kristi, that is a very good connection--I had not thought about it that way. I have enjoyed reading this book. This has been one of the best books since Ender.

I have enjoyed reading this book as well. I feel a connection with it
because I am a Christian and active in my church. I have often wondered what it would be like to grow up as a pastor's child. They, as well as their parents, always seem to be held at a higher standard than most people. Sometimes I feel that way about teachers. Because we are teaching children, we have to watch ourselves more than those who are in other professions because we never know when we may run into a parent. There are some parents who know as "real" people outside of the classroom, but others do not. Do we as teachers compare to Nathan in that we have to hold ourselves in a higher place because of our careers?
Any thoughts?

I do think that we hold ourselves to a higher standard and attempt to set a good example and be good role models, because you never know when we will be seen out by a student or parent. I do not think we are like Nathan Price in the fact that we think our way is the only way and that we have to be right and in control of all around us.
We do have pressures on us, but we do not allow them to rule our lives.
