Last night before going to bed, I was reading this Sunday's Sunday School lesson and ran into this passage. I thought it fitting of our conversation about Nathan and his "style" of Christianity...

"The "one mind" or purpose we are called to share is to love each other with the same kind of love that Jesus has. In verse 4 (from Phil 2), Paul offers parallel sentences of advise: don't be selfish or conceited, but be humble and regard others as more important than yourself. Don't just look out for your own interests, but also for the interests of others."

This reminded me of a statement that was made last night about being raised that God is love and others are raised according to "the law" of the Bible. Obviously Nathan was one that went strictly by "the law". If he had been open to learning about others and their interest and not his interest to baptize everyone in sight, he arguably would have been more successful.

Kelly, I completely agree with you. That's what I would like to believe, and it's that conflict between those types of verses and the behaviors that are exhibited by "Nathans" that are causing me such grief at this time! I don't want to throw the baby out with the bath water, but the views of people that are so self-righteous and/or hypocrites can really get your focus off of the chief commandment. I would like to see people demonstrate Jesus' love to everyone and in general, be more tolerant of differences. Especially as administrators, we need to demonstrate that tolerance and support of all people that enter our school communities.
