Maybe someone can help me out a little. What does Putnam mean when he said, "explicit criteria contradicts the very idea of philosophy?" Does philosophy have more to do with solidarity and subjectiveness (abstractions) or with preciseness and objectivity?

I think what he was gettiung at was this: Philosophy has its roots in questioning everything and anything. To say something is so set in stone that there is no questioning, and that there is a precise criteria destroys what philosophy originated as.
Thats what I think. Whether I am right or wrong?
