On November 11th I attended a program that showed the privileges that people have that they never realized and how that it is impossible to judge a person by their appearance. The program involved interaction from the people there. We all stood in a line across the back of the room and we held hands. The moderator would ask a question and we would take a step forward if it applied to us and stayed where we were if it did not. Some of the questions were, "Both my parents graduated from college. I have health insurance. Someone in my house holds a masters or higher level degree." As people started to progress forward, the hands that we were holding broke and once that happened, no one could seem to catch up. This activity very much reminded me of what we did in class when Dr. Turner asked us to stand up if the question applied. We were learning that the person that had made it across the room had had the most privilege in our lives, but that being said, he still went to the same school as the person in the very back. Looking around the room and seeing where people where left standing really put into perspective how different the background of individuals can be and how little we actually see those differences.
